Jean Charest, Quebec’s premier, told the national assembly that francophone sixth graders will now be required to study the English language intensively for half of the school year,The biggest hurdle Quebec’s schools are facing is not putting enough emphasis on learning English as a second language. According to the premier, Quebec’s French-speaking students do not have sufficient knowledge of the English language.
